Joining this stellar lineup in the studio and on stage is vocalist/percussionist Laura Creamer, who has recorded and toured with Bob Seger, Eric Clapton, Bruce Hornsby and The Black Crowes. The new album, on Texas indie label Flyin' Dog Records, is a blend of blues, rock and Americana... with a splash of Cajun and a pinch of funk. The songs were written by Vidal, along with co-writers Julie Didier, Michele Vice-Maslin, Liz Vidal, John Amos and Chip Lazauskas. "I fell in love with the Houston players," said Vidal. "They play real down and dirty, straight from the soul. I really wanted to record here, and capture some of that." The new release was recorded and mixed at Origin Sound in Houston, and mastered by recording legend Harry Maslin in Los Angeles. ![]()

![]() David Vidal "After the Storm" Order CD David Vidal Bio: David Vidal www.davidvidal.net www.myspace.com/davidvidal Booking: The Kenneth Dunn Agency (832-766-2608) Houston, Texas Born in the high desert town of Gallup, New Mexico, bluesy singer/songwriter and slide guitarist David Vidal has appeared on the Nashville Network, had songs recorded by America and Vince Gill and worked with such musical luminaries as Joe Walsh of the Eagles and Gene Clark of the Byrds. He has had songs in numerous movies and television shows, including the classic Southern comedy "My Cousin Vinny" and the hit series “Friday Night Lights”. Vidal has released four critically acclaimed solo albums… three on his own label, and the latest, the 2010 release “After The Storm”, on Texas label Flyin’ Dog Records. “David Vidal’s new album After The Storm is very cool.” Record producer Harry Maslin (David Bowie, James Taylor , Grateful Dead) "Vidal's originals are fraught with simple daily life hurts and rebounds, and his delivery evokes unspoken feelings..." Greg Snaer, TERI Center for the Arts, Oceanside, California “Americana Blues is a phenomenal no-nonsense collection. Vidal’s acoustic and slide guitar playing, raw vocals and compositional skills are excellent.” Alt-Country Forum, Amsterdam, Holland. “Vidal’s attention grabbing two hour performance was a spectacular sonic experience” Billy Moschella Jr., The Viper Room, Hollywood “David Vidal is a Norse god.” Actor/musician John Bishop Its possible that some readers remember David Vidal as the writer of the titlesong of the fairly recent compilationproject "LoveSong to New Orleans" (2009). One might even know him from his music for the film "My Cousin Vinny"(featuring the mad Joe Pesci). More likely lovers of this genre know him from his fprevious cd. Unfortunately that album recieved little attention inside our borders. For the present a missed chance because David knows how to weave his talents within the bounds of country, blues and folk. His previous cd was appropriately titled, "Americana Blues".Though "After the Storm" was brought about mainly in Houston and besides provided with musicians from this area, it contains several added distinctive Cajun elements. Apparently New Orleans has left a distinct impression and has not been forgotten in the least. This time Vidal has surrounded himself with a very capable ensemble. Ed Starkey (base) James Rose (drums) Mark May (electric guitar),Laura Creamer-Known for having worked with The Black Crowes, Bob Seger, Eric Clapton- (vocalist and percussion) to name a few. Each excellent musicians in their own right. The twelve numbers David has written independently or in collaboration with others.A variety of balanced compositions. Influences from blues, folk, cajun and country are passionately and respectfully mixed. The opener Let it be me is a tranquil ballad from a selfassertive artist. Made me think a bit of one of John Lennons better numbers from his "post-Beatle" period. The Wanting he cowrote with his wife Liz. (She shies from publicity, but meanwhile as an accomplished professional songwriter continues to deliver music for the most diverse artists, tv-series and films). An industruous duo thus. Hotel Know It All comes off with a difficult start, while Laura Creamer paves the way for her singing in the ethereal Dreamin'.After the Storm presents Vidal once again as a worthy talent. Less "rootsy" perhaps than its predecessor, but certainly just as charming, competent and skilfull. A description befitting the artist himself. |
